St. Joseph's Church

One of the four principal churches in Beijing.

St. Joseph's Church was originally built in 1655. It was damaged by an earthquake in 1720 and rebuilt. Then it caught fire in 1807 and was destroyed once more in 1900 during the Boxer rebellion.

It was only restored in 1904 only to be shut in 1966.

Today it is fully repaired and in the middle of Wangfujng's commercial centre.

The square in front of the church is one of the most popular places for wedding photos and where Chinese models pose in wedding gowns for modern bridal magazines.
