Thailand is one of the worlds biggest producers and exporters of Latex. Our tour guide was quick to inform us that this is not done because of the money it can generate for the country etc. but because Thailand need so many condoms. This is a joke, but not too far fetched as we've all seen what goes on in Bangla road, Phuket - Walking street in Pattaya etc.
The rubber trees get planted and then you have to wait seven years before rubber tapping can begin. This is used for all kinds of rubber products, tyres, elastic bands, condoms etc. but also for hair products, lotions an do forth. Palm tree oil is very good for you.
In Thailand it is even used in gasoline. This is the only place in the world were your car will run on some palm oil.
The oil from one tree can be used between the trees age of seven and thirty years, after that the tree gets chopped off and used to manufacture furniture. We managed to find my mum a souvenir long tail boat made out of rubber tree wood.
